Returning to Vietnam after Arts Festival Autumn Melodies 2017, Vu Viet Chuong, the violinist, will once again showcase his virtuosity in the friendship concert at 8 pm, 29th October at HCMC's Opera House, as part of the cooperation between the Ho Chi Minh city Union of Friendship Organizations and Ho Chi Minh's city Vietnam - US Friendship Association.
The musical evening is rich in its great diversity, starting with Candide Overture from Candide, a Bernstein adaptation of Voltaire's work. Debuted at Broadway in 1956, Candide and most notably its famous Overture number performed by New York Philharmonic Orchestra in 1957 with Bernstein himself has gained a passionate following over the years.
Followed is series of film scores written for cinematic greats like Theme and Fantasy by Nigel Hess (Ladies in Lavender), Tango by Carlos Gardel (Scent of a Woman) and Remembrances by John Williams (Schindler's List). The second half is Rachmaninov's Symphony No. 2 in E Minor. The night's musical duties will be handled by conductor Hector Guzman and HBSO Symphony Orchestra, expected as a wonderful treat to audiences' eyes and visual imagination.
