In June, let's come with the film screening "Amerika" to plunge yourself in the film atmosphere of the 90s.

“Amerika” is a Czech film adapted from the novel of the same title written by Franz Kafka. Also named “The man who disappeared”, the book is one of the only three novels, his first and the most humorous novel in the legacy the great writer left behind for next generations.

Despite never traveling to America, Franz Kafka read all he could find in Prague about this country and sought inspiration from letters of his two uncles who immigrated to the New World. “Amerika” centers on the wanderings of 16-year-old Karel Rossman, who was forced to travel to New York to escape the scandal of his seduction by a maid who becomes pregnant.

While the character stayed in a seemingly endless journey with the open ending of Kafka's original novel, the film version of director Vladimír Michálek gave Karl Rossman a happen ending when he found his true love to accompany him on the long journey ahead.
