Manzi Art Space is proud to present "The Age After Divinity" - a series of new works by Hanoi-born surrealist, Nguyễn Mạnh Hùng, whose playful, irony-laden work has been turning heads in the contemporary art scene of Vietnam.
Depicting activities and events of daily life in an absurd world, this series of oil and water colour paintings presents immersive environments with droll juxtapositions that cleverly allude to cultural realities, social conflicts, the complexities of civic development and individual responsibility in Vietnam today.
Focusing on the visual relationships of disjointed elements and unusual scales, with 'The Age After Divinity', Hung has conveyed his wry sense of humour and boldly brought audiences to a world in which everything is made bare through his biting irony.
"The Age After Divinity" will be launched on Friday, 6 July 2018 and will be on display till 06 Aug 2018 at Manzi Art Space, 14 Phan Huy Ich, Hanoi.

5. About artist Nguyễn mạnh Hùng:
Nguyễn Mạnh Hùng (born 1976, graduated from the Vietnam University of Fine Arts in 2002) belongs to the second generation of avant-garde artists in Hanoi and has been making extensive contribution and impact on both the local and international art scene ever since he emerged in the early 2000s. Hùng makes art that reflects the comical situations arising from the rapid yet piecemeal processes of domestic urbanization and modernization. As a multi-disciplinary artist, he is equally at ease painting as he is creating large-scale installations or exploring performance art. Hùng’s particular realist style encompasses a distinctive sense of playfulness and humour that sets him apart from previous generations of artists.
Hùng has exhibited in a number of notable regional and international exhibitions, including the latest solo exhibition “Farmer’s got Power” (Galerie Quynh, 2016), 7th Asia Paci fic Triennial of Contemporary Art at the Queensland Art Gallery |Gallery of Modern Art in Brisbane, Australia; ‘One Planet’ at Galerie Quynh and Manzi Art Space, Vietnam (2013); ‘Living together in paradise’ (Goethe-Institut Hanoi, 2011); ‘Tam Ta’ (San Art, Ho Chi Minh City 2010); ‘Connect: Kunstzene Vietnam’ presented by ifa Galleries, Berlin and Stuttgart (2009)...
In April 2016, Nguyễn Mạnh Hùng participated in “Into thin Air”, an art-in-public project by Manzi, with supports from Prince Claus Fund for Culture and Development & Goethe Institut.
