The HBSO will stage its ballet about the American War (known elsewhere as the Vietnam War), The Legend Lives On, on May 19, 2018 in the Saigon Opera House.
The war is over, but its heroic songs, its love songs, its faith in the Party and Great Uncle Ho Chi Minh, will go on forever.
The era produced songs that touched the spirit and memory of every human being. When listening to these songs and watching enactments, viewers suddenly find themselves feeling strong, inspired, and generally more confident in life.

SYNOPSIS
Once upon a time, the country was divided, with the South turned into a dark prison.
Má Bảy 's family also represents every other family who has resiliently overcome the pain and the devastation of war and the waterfall "Dong Khoi", blowing up flames of revolution throughout the South.
Má Bảy and her family are assigned to city activities. Carrying documents hidden among fruit, Má Bảy passes the enemy and completes her mission.
Following their parents’ revolutionary activities, the sister and brother join a student art team and fight on the road. Relentless brutal persecution follows.
In the spring a surprise war breaks out in the enemy's lair. Má Bảy’s mission is to secretly transfer weapons and organize first aid. Ut Binh joins the Liberation Army and Hai Hoa leads the way for the troops to advance. Fierce house-to-house fighting takes place in every street. The enemy is afraid to desist and sit down at the conference table.
The campaign ends. Ut Binh and the other soldiers return to their base and are sent to study abroad. But the enemy fights back, day and night bombing suburban areas. Underground in tunnels, however, the song of the guerrilla girls still resonates. In quiet moments between bombings, Hai Hoa embraces her guitar and remembers her lover imprisoned in a distant island.
Ut Binh graduates and returns to his motherland to join his comrades. At the top of Truong Son Mountain, Ut Binh and the troops "follow the fire from their heart." They have overcome the fierceness of nature but the struggle within themselves to continue goes on. The Truong Son road is filled with bombs, but love burns in the bright, intense youth. "See you in Saigon!"
A solid base in Saigon, with powerful firepower, cannot stop the progress of our troops and people. In the final battle, the sister and the brother meet unexpectedly on the way to attack the enemy. A series of explosions suddenly rings out and the heroic Ut Binh is sacrificed in the arms of his sister.
Our troops rushed to crush the last enemy base and speed up the liberation of Saigon, Ho Chi Minh City. Happiness is bursting with joy at liberation. Mom meets her children, wife meets her husband, and relatives reunite in joy and tears. Hai Hoa chokes hugging her mom, Ma Bay holds Ut Binh's memory dear as tears roll down her cheeks.
The atmosphere becomes more and more vibrant, the daughter returning and hugging her lover, both of them in the loving arms of Má Bảy. Hai Hoa feels as if she’s in a dream.
Each member of the young group waves a cheerful goodbye to friends and relatives. The younger generation of the city then follows in the footsteps of their parents to go to remote areas and heal the wounds of war and protect the sacred country.
