On the occasion of Beethoven’s 250th Birth (1770 – 2020), pianist Luu Hong Quang and Luu Duc Anh will bring to the Vietnamese public the greatest masterpiece of Beethoven in particular and of all history of music in general, his Ninth Symphony.

Ludwig van Beethoven is widely considered the greatest composer of all time, and definitely among the most inspiring human being. His life was full of misery, poverty, loneliness, sickness and deafness, the bitter irony of a musician. But against all the odds, he still carried on composing, a large number of his most important works were written when he was deaf, including the Ninth Symphony itself. At the premiere of the piece, he had to be turned around to see the ovation he could not hear.

Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony is regarded as a supreme achievement in the history of music and continued to influence the development of music and society. The piece is famous for its setting of Schiller’s poem “Ode to joy”, triumphant words that matched Beethoven’s powerful and immortal music.

Originally composed for grand symphony orchestra with chorus and quickly became one of the most beloved and performed symphonies in the world, the Luu brothers will interpret a version transcribed for 2 pianos by Franz Liszt, which is rarely performed on international concert halls nowadays. 20 fingers of the two young pianists will replace hundreds of orchestra musicians to create a unique rendition of this masterpiece.

The concert will also mark the first ever duo performance of the two pianists Luu Hong Quang and Luu Duc Anh in Vietnam. The two brother-pianist has both gained their reputation as two individual brilliant soloists with many successful recitals, concerts in Vietnam and international but has never collaborated in a duo concert in their home country.

Prior to the concert, there will be a pre-concert talk about Beethoven’s life and his music to help the audience captivate the spirit of Beethoven and enjoy the performance with great excitement.
