1962 was a memorable milestone when Duke Ellington was entering a very different phase in his career at this time when he transitioned from playing with the Big Band to small quartets and quintets. The association with many artists at that time included Count Basie, Louis Armstrong, Coleman Hawkins, Max Roach, and Charles Mingus.
The collaboration between two generations of Jazz - Duke Ellington and John Coltrane was recorded and released in 1963 by Impulse! Records. Two styles, one neat, standard, experienced, the other youthful, wild, full of energy and vitality go together. There is no conflict in music, instead there is compromise from both to create one of the best "duet" albums of all time.
Duke Ellington and John Coltrane is an amazing album any way you cut it. It can truly be played for hours on end and never loose its edge, its feeling of enjoyment. It is an album that can at one moment excite the listener with driving, jazzy tracks that never let up, and then next mellow the listener out with soft and gentle endeavors.

A small dot on the map, not only a destination for everyone but also a connecting point between people, because ultimately, music or art is something that both satisfies the passion of artists and the needs of the audience.
